Different ways to compost: a brief overview

Updated: Jul 26

This post is a brief overview of the different ways you can compost. I do not go into the whole process of composting, that is a video/post for a later date. For now, enjoy learning about different ways you can compost dependent on your area!

Composting can be introduced at any time throughout your zero-waste process. There are numerous ways to compost, depending on where you are located. Composting is a great way you can reduce your waste, without changing too much of your lifestyle.

First off, what is composting?

A decomposing process of taking organic matter and turning it into the soil to grow more plants!

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF COMPOSTING

WORM COMPOSTING

TUMBLER COMPOSTING

BACKYARD COMPOSTING

  • Just because the method is called backyard composting, doesn’t mean it has to be in the backyard.

  • It can be set up on the side of your home or in the front.

DROP OFF / PICK UP COMPOSTING

  • You collect the compostable products in a 5-gallon bucket (typically) and drop it off yourself or pay for a company to do it for you.

  • No compost set up needed!

*Options may vary depending on location.

A simple Google search will help you identify which option is best for you.
